Oh God...Pray Tell What To Do?

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Day three home from the hospital has Leah in good spirits about being home. We are so glad for the time that we have together as I am her constant companion and her constant provider of her needs. Hospice is in for one hour a day and the rest is up to me to watch over her and pray. However my work called today and it seems that I may soon have to activate the family medical leave act which allows me time off to deal with something such as this. Only problem is it will be all unpaid leave.

My former boss tried to get a fund set up at a local bank so that proceeds from caring individuals could help but that too has seemed for some unknown reason to hit a snag. My mind has grown tired of making decisions yet now I will soon be faced with another and that is to go back to work and leave Leah in the hands of her 81 year old mother or to just stay at home where I know that I should be….with my wife.

If her needs were as simple as just giving medication and watching her sleep, then this would not be much of a problem for her mother, however her needs far exceed that as she is now bedridden. Oh God…pray tell what to do?

****I just returned from the bank and they are seeing if they can help me find a lawyer who will set it up as a charitable / non-profit account so that any proceeds can go for expenses thus allowing me to spend each day that I have with Leah…I just hope we can pull it off soon.*****

Oh God…Pray Tell What To Do?

Dark soldiers climb upon steely mounts.

Swords unsheathed; reclamation pronounced.

I stand alone on Uncertainties Mountain.

Oh God, pray tell what shall I do?

You oh Lord see these of all my needs.

My heart breaks dear Lord; I just can’t leave.

Make my way oh God to a clear and straightened path.

Allow me through your grace to stay where my love is cast.

She is my world in this troubled and moving stream.

She is the light that causes my heart to shine on old men’s dreams.

I will always be her protector I will always stand by her side.

So pray tell dear Lord, what shall I do so that in these days with my Leah I can abide.

J, this can't be easy for you, I know it's not. I can say that in all honesty, not to be sympathetic, but in total empathy. I keep a constant vigil myself, not knowing oft times if the proverial dagger overhead will fall. The Lord is your only refuge in times like these, in him and him alone can you trust all things, financially and emotionally. Lay it all out to him, and he will not forsake you in yours and Leah's hour of need. If you were to return to work, tis true, it would be too much!
Though the bills pile up, and I know this from personal experience too, let those who are trained in these matters help you, from all facets of life, grief counsel and also financial counsel, as the Lord directs them to you.
My heart hurts for you and Leah right now. May I just say this, Make every moment count, tomorrow has enough worries of its own, live for the today's.. Will remember your dearest one in my prayers, and you also..
May God give you peace and rest, and please keep in touch via msg board..
Love to you always
Ch'erie

Allen,
My heart is pained by all of this. I have a friend whose Mother suffered terribly due to cancer. At the end, my friend, his sister, and his niece each took 8 hour shifts caring for the ailing Mother/Grandmother. Do you have family members nearby or those who may have vacation leave that they could take to help you?

Hang in there.
With thoughts and prayers,
Jill

(((Allen and Leah)))

If I had the money, you'd have it. Trust me when I say this: all I can offer you is my prayers (constantly) and a shoulder to lean on, an ear to bend: message board me your number, I'll call. So heartbreaking, but I'm glad Leah is home where she belongs, with you and China. Take the time off, Leah needs you more than ever. And you need her: your love is strong. Your Father's love is stronger, rely on Him to provide the answers. He will not forsake you.

(((HUGS))) love and prayer, Karla.

Have you thought of a trusting neighbor or relatives who could take turns while you are at work, if need be. I have done this and I would again, but you are so far away. I believe your faith in God will see you through. With all the love of Jesus Christ, I pray for grace and mercy for Leah and you.

I'm so glad Leah is home. I went through this with my father, and mother. It took three of us to help them, and my brother lived with them so he did the overnight. I did most of the work during the day until we got a home health aide. Ask the Hospice people for the Social worker to come as soon as possible. She will take a history of your finances, and see what you are eligible for. It is tricky, you can't have too much money. You can cash out maybe a life insurance policy if you have one? They may tell you that. If not, then you may be better off. Then, Leah may be eligible for medicaid to pay for the home care but, you should go to work as soon as you are able to do so emotionally. If you do that then you can pay someone to take care of her needs all day, or four hours a day. A family member isn't trained for that kind of help. I did it because I did something similar for a living. I took care of mentally disabled consumers. You need, a strong back, and body, because you will pull something out trying to hold them from falling, or even move them over on the bed. The hospice are the ones that are supposed to help you, refer people. I hope this helped.

Check with all the Christian denominations in your area and see if they can offer a solution. You can't afford to lose your job as this will only add to your problems. Medicare or medicaid offers relief by sending part time help of at least 4 hours a day. Check them out if you haven't already. Our prayers are with you. Check with your Senators and Reps to see what they can do to get rid of any road blocks you are facing.

Can't you get care and nurturing leave for spouse? I wish you were in Canada, because it would make everything so much simpler. There are laws that can protect you here and to give you leave and funds to care for your loved ones. Can you request a health care through the government to have a nurse come into your home to care for Leah?

I'm feeling very sad for you and Leah over this.

How about hiring a nurse/caregiver for the hours you are at work, though granted that is quite expensive, at least you will be working towards paying it and such...hope you can work things out...Ed

I wish I had the answer, Allen, but I don't. Know that God will make a way; you just have to trust in Him, lean on Him. Speak to others about your dilemma; somewhere, somehow, there's got to be someone who can help. Don't give up hope; I'm still praying hard for you and Leah!!

Heartbreaking write; God be with you and Leah during this time of trial!

(((HUGS))) and much love to you both~

As always, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <
