Our Box Of Love On An Open Sea

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Today we buried my wife Leah Cecile Wilson by the statue in the cemetery of the woman clinging to the cross. This is what my Leah did all of her life. She knelt at the foot of the cross and kept Jesus in her heart. However, I feel dead inside without her; I feel so empty and alone. Some may say that at least now I can move on and put this to rest as I have now laid Leah to rest. I know not what the days ahead may bring, but I do know that our love will go on.

As most of you may know, Tybee Island, Ga. was our most favorite place in the world to go and be together. There we were free in our spirits to laugh and build castles in the sand; to sit on the pier at midnight and hear the ocean roll beneath our feet. I did not get to keep the promise that I made to her this year in that I would take her back to Tybee for her birthday…it seems she and God had other plans for that day. However, a promise from me is a promise and Leah and I will return to Tybee this year….

It is my plan for this coming Thanksgiving to take her back to the place she loved so much. Together she and I have collected years of memories of this most wonderful place and it is my plan to gather our memories together and place them in a sealed floating time capsule if you will. I plan on having a minister to conduct a service out on the end of the pier and have a bagpiper play “Amazing Grace”. After the ceremony I plan to take that box of love and give it to the sea where I hope that our love and dreams will forever drift on open seas. If they happen to wash on some remote beach; it is my prayer that whoever finds our box of love that they will return it back to the sea.

Our Box Of Love On An Open Sea

There are pictures; driftwood; seashells and odd little things.

They are memories captured from a special time in our dreams.

Leah, oh sweet Leah, Our love will drift forever upon the open sea.

Our love will never die; you will always be a part of me.

Some call me crazy; some just call me a sentimental old fool.

But my love; oh my sweet love…we shall always be despite what man may say.

For our memories are intertwined in spirit; our love…I PROMISE will never fade away.

J. Allen Wilson 9/11/08.........

We dreamed it would never end.

Our love; our life whispered in the sand.

Tybee Island; our place by the calm sea.

Tybee Island Forever with Leah and Me.

This is a beautiful plan, and I wish you well with your plans. Surely she will be hovering near by and knows your love will always be there for her.... I too have been wondering how to deal with my own "urn" and "memories" after all these years....and know that the time is near for me to "let go"....or at least as much as I can on this earth.... God keep you both in His arms... lindalaw

Yes, truly your love will go on. Mine has for my Tom too. I adored him as much as you do Leah. An still lonely and sad without him too.Upi are mpt crazy and I think returning the treasures to the open sea is great. I gave most of Tom's treasures away to friends of ours both. Thanks for this write, wish I could be there with you for the ceremony, will be with you in heart though.

Love does live on...it is one of the few things in this world that is of true priceless worth and that we can take with us into the next...
I know your heart must be breaking...Take refuge in the Lord and He will help you through this. It won't be tomorrow or the next day or the next week, but eventually you will be able to find joy and peace in your life with Leah and that joy will be greater than your pain.

Blessings,
Cryssa

Mr. Wilson;

I'll let you eavesdrop on my conversation with God....from my lips to God's ears:

Gracious and Loving Lord,

My heart breaks for Mr. Wilson as he faces the loss of his precious wife Leah. Especially under these difficult circumstances. Oh, Lord, I can't even begin to imagine the range of emotions that he will go through in the days ahead. I have an inkling Lord, but only an inkling. Grief is so different, so exclusive for each one of us, and this loss carries its' own set of additional heartaches. I say that I don't know exactly what they are going through, Lord, but You do know. You know because You created Him and You know His heart through and through. You know because You count the hairs on His head and number His days. You know because You allowed your own beloved Son to die for sins He didn't commit, out of love for me, and for those whose names I don't even know. There is often no justice in the world, Father, but there is mercy, and that mercy comes from You. In these moments, dearest Lord, I just ask that You cradle mr. Wilson in Your arms, and comfort Him with the peace that only You can deliver. Where there can be no understanding, bring the assurance of Your mercy and grace. Just be in this situation Lord, in any way that You are needed, for You alone know the extent of the need. I love you Father, and I ask all of this in Jesus name. Amen.

Allen,

I am so sorry ... words fail, but love never will. I wish I could be there. Know I'm there, in spirit. A beautiful way to celebrate the love you share.

Allen, you have written this so beautifully and have touched my heart so very much. I think the service you are planning for Leah is so lovely. I only wish I weren't so far away as I might have a chance to attend. She is with you always, Allen, in the things you see around you and feel around you everyday. My prayers are with you always.
