Shelter From The Storm

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

I asked God today why the pain would not go away. I prayed with all my heart and soul and as I listened in the quietness of the day he whispered to me many great things.

Shelter From The Storm

When the days are dark and the storm clouds continuously rise.

I seek shelter from the storm in the comfort of God in this life of mine.

Though the tempest may blow and fears in rage wash over me.

I seek solace by His grace and He in His eternal love sets me free.

Yet day by day I enter the ports filled with memories of Leah and our time.

I am reminded of our love and the wonderful beauty that we once shared.

And then the dark storms return; I become overwhelmed; I begin to cry.

I wonder when sweet memories will remain sweet memories and just that.

I wonder when I will once again hold her hand and she mine.

I ask the Lord God to guide me down the treacherous and lonely path.

I ask Him to make my days filled with a joy that will forever last.

I tell Him my sorrows; I share with Him my mournful lamenting grief.

And he softly whispers “never fear my son, for I Am forever with thee”.

I then tell Him this I know for throughout my life your love I’ve known.

Then I cry out seeking His face; I tell Him of the seeds of sadness that have been sown.

I ask Him to bring me peace by His loving grace.

He then whispered once again to me; “Fear not the storms that fill your eyes.

Fear not the seas that overwhelm; I shall grant you peace when it is time.

For this trial of fire in which you have suffered and lingered through.

It shall become a catalyst unto the testament of love by Leah and you”.

“For many shall hear your story of love;

Many shall know it was ordained from above.

So be still and weep; listen not to what others may say.

For they know not the depth of the love you shared.

But by my grace they shall hear and find their own way”.

But Lord, many tell me that it is time for me to lay it to rest and move on.

They say two weeks is enough and what was; is no more but forever gone.

This cuts me like a knife dear God; this burns a dark place in my soul.

I know neither the day nor the hour as I fight to keep this life of mine whole.

“He whispered again in such a loving way…

He said once more it is only for a season

And great things will come from your loves pain.

Now sleep in my peace and know that… I AM the shelter in your storm”.

Sometimes I think That God has rejected me. I get so sad, then I pray to him and ask forgiveness for doubting his ways and him. It is hard to get buy without our loves, but we can do it. Many times we need to just listen to God's words and live by them and have those memories of our love ones close in our hearts and go on from there. I know it is hard, but to survive you must be a survivor which we are in this world. Even without our mates we must abide by God's ways and wait it out till he wants us up there in Heaven too. That is what I do moment by moment. Hope I helped you some.

Allen, this is beautiful. I, too, have had this conversation with God and I can say He stands by His word. Rebecca

Oh, Allen,

This. Is. BEAUTIFUL. See? He understands, He hears: rest in the comfort of His sheltering arms. Take your time; He has nothing but time to listen, to answer, to love you as you are. Well done, I needed this, too. The storms of life have been battering my shores, my foundation, but this gives renewed strength and hope. Thank you, my (((friend))).

(((HUGS))) love and prayer, Karla.
