Poem Artwork

Ten More Days…

In ten more days and this soul of me or is it I will turn 52.

Ten more days and shall I venture towards something new.

Flight 706 will be leaving on a most likely cold Carolina morn.

And I will be aboard destined for Florida where both days and nights are warm.

No body, but no body knows what an eternity this winter has been.

With the dark gray clouds; the silence, the steel cold feeling of being alone.

I think; I know that I could never be able to enjoy this 52nd year here now at home.

With the exception on one…no other birthday treat this year shall I receive.

Therefore in the mind of my own wayward madness on flight 706 I shall leave.

Call it giving myself a gift if you may; call it what you like, but I leave in ten more days for a land of endless night.

You may also say…”Al what shall you find down there that you cannot here”.

Find…what I shall find… I shall find palm trees and sandy white shores.

I will find the warmth and the sweet beauty of dawn that greets me each morn.

Some may now say to me…”How will this heal and mend the heart so worn”?

To answer honestly…I really do not know.

Yet I do know that for me this will be a very special birthday treat.

As I in joy will walk through gardens with golden flowers in full bloom.

I will watch as butterflies gracefully flit and I will dance beneath the silver moon.

Therefore question me not, but wish me the beauty and grace of Gods speed.

And as I sit on those white sandy shores, I will sing once more the song of angels

as I watch the sun break the dawn at my mornings door and see what it brings.

God speed to you on your air flight and trip to Florida on your birthday and to celebrate as you feel you want to. That is fighting grief, doing what is symbolic to you not letting others interfere.
Make new traditions on hoidays and certain days and you will finally be set free a little from your grief and as time goes on heal mightily.

Oh yeah, baby, do it up, forget old and gray South Carolina and relish in the sun & warmth of the Sunshine state...I wish I could meet you there, but I would be sleeping in my car and bathing in the ocean & anyway I dislike the heat almost as much as Rufuz...so keep in touch & remember your friends who are too poor to make the trip with you...Find peace & contentment & I am sure we will talk one day while you are making foot prints on the shore...Ed

Allen,

Who knows what the warm Florida sun will bring? Only one way to find out is by getting on that plane and heading south! You are in my prayers, my friend, and happy early 52 (right behind you, I'll be 50 in June).

(((HUGS))) love and continued prayer, Karla.
