Goodbye?

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Wednesday, December 31, 2003

Would you come to say goodbye,

if it were today that I should die?

Could I go in peace to my eternal rest,

knowing you came in your Sunday best?

Or will I like yesterdays wind, simply just fade away?

Where will you be that (glad…sad) day my friend,

when this body of mine, the gravedigger lowers in?

Will you be there by the this solemn graveside,

or will you be catching fish on the mornings tide?

In your heart of hearts, will you even remember me

Or have all your thoughts and considerations taken wings

And from your mind, have they have truly fled?

After all, you have said, “what’s the use, dead is dead”

Oh my friend, is this the way it will be,

or will you bare kindness and show you have decency?

Will you at least, be my friend one last time?

Or is this just a vain and empty thought of mine?

for I had really believed you to be considerate and kind.

I guess there is no true way for me to really know,

who did and who did not show.

For when they intern this vessel that once was me,

Will there, I want to know…be anyone to grieve?

Your writing leaves me speechless. I read it and then come down here and feel totally inept, for there is nothing I can write to do your writing justice. Thank you, for moving me this deeply.

I will be grieving while catching fish as I find that is the most respectful I can be for anyone I know and find of interest...Ed & Rufuz

There's much pain in this write; But I prefer to attempt to touch others while I'm here, to try to make some small difference. That way, no matter when I'm gone.

Keep the proverbial chin up, Up, UP!
May abundant blessings be yours in the New Year.

Hugs,
Tami

I'm wondering if there is anybody that's never thought about this. "When I die, will anybody show up to say good-bye?" It's a tough question to ask, especially if you are afraid of the answer.
You've made me think very early this morning Allen! Don't worry Sir, I'm sure there will be many greiving deeply when you go. Good write. Lisa

Deep and painful, my friend...
You captured the pain in this
write with your talented pen..
Unfortunately, when they lower us
in the ground, we won't know who
our true friends are.
