I Dream No More

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Tuesday, January 13, 2004

I dream no more, for faded is the day.

awash in a colorless sky, just slipping quietly away.

Lost now to this… monochrome world am I,

Where listless are the days in this world of dying.

Parched are the fields that rob life from the soul,

sucking its fill, even to the marrow of the bone.

Left alone am I…left crying…lost and without a home.

For I wander this valley of the dead, without hope or dream,

even the bones of those that I once in another time had known,

Rise from the ashen soil to shake their fist at the sky and scream.

They cry for their peace, and they mourn for those who remain,

Then they fall back helplessly into their forgotten graves.

Yea, I dream no more…for torpid is my mind…

For the day is without a morrow and the night…well the night.......

Is full of sorrow…

One can dream even in death.. one can dream of what is on the other side.. This is very sad but has a hauntingly beautiful style.
