If I find a home by Christmas can I decorate a tree?
I’ve never had a tree that was my own.
I’ve always spent my Christmas with the other kids like me,
In a house for “special children” with no home.

I don’t need no gifts for Christmas, but a hug would be OK.
I don’t need to sit on Santa Clause’s knee.
But if there really is a Santa, here’s what I’d like on Christmas day.
I’d really love to decorate a tree.

There’s a child who’s name is Jesus, who was born on Christmas day.
I have heard that he was special just like me.
I have heard his lovely stories, the kind words he had to say;
They say he was born to decorate a tree.

I want to be like Jesus, to do what he would do,
See what he saw and be what he would be.
Please don’t give me toys for Christmas, I just want to be like him.
So, for Christmas let me decorate a tree.
