The Prince
(In answer to Roger Ochs’ challenge)

At a far-away place in a far-away time
A secret is kept both from prose and from rhyme.
A conspiracy held in the highest esteem
Through an edict pronounced by a once famous king.
For in all that you’ve heard and in all that you’ve read
Of his good son Prince Charming, the worst is unsaid.
As a journalist, then, it’s my duty to tell
All the things I have learned, which I now will reveal.
While Snow White once lived with her dwarfs in the wood,
A beauty lay sleeping not far from the hood.
And a rascally Prince with a fair reputation
Was appraised by his men of the whole situation.
Now beneath all his fame from the king’s chief advisors
Most young men of great wealth are just plain womanizers.
And true to his ilk, the young Prince, you see,
Was setting his eyes where they ought not to be.
And while you’ve been told of a happy thereafter,
In truth the young Prince brought both girls to disaster.
Oh he rescued them both as the stories still say.
And to each pledged his troth in his devious way.
Then he whisked them away to some castles he owned,
Where he kept them quite busy maintaining each home.
And they each went quite mad in their make-believe worlds.
While the Prince spent his time looking out for more girls.
