*Kalliope=the highest ranking Muse (epic poetry)

Poem Artwork

My soul struggles, tormented in the night.

Kalliope echoes back primeval joy.

In answer to the distress of my soul,

She comes to me, invisible and coy.

Invisible to most, yet I can tell

There's more to her than reason can admit.

This image is no dream, for I can smell

A fragrance only women can emit.

Kalliope only comes when men believe

Hope lingers as she passes  through the door.

Her face has features artists can't achieve.

She calms me by a scent I've known before.

Fear dissolves at the timbre of her voice.

We partake of intimate, pure pleasure.

My re-awakened soul now makes a choice:

Opting for hope and brave beyond measure

To compensate for fears this night may spawn,

Recognizing  my soul itself could die.

The night will somehow end and greet the dawn,

 Kalliope whispers still another lie.

Hmmm, is there a challenge going on as I keep seeing a common theme in all of the poems I just read. They all seem to have something to do with *lies*.

In any event, you muse has inspired you quite nicely here. Now I understand a wet dream. *WINK*

Hey Katy, Its what us poets do in foxholes and other scary places at night...we use our ability to imaging great things like naked ladys and womenly scents to fake bravery. LOL. Thanks for the wonderful review.

I can't tell you, Lonny, how much picturing you in your tent, unable to sleep, actually completed the utter flattening this work has had on me.. bold, yes.. but so gentle, so achingly inviting.. you grasped and held this creature of dreams and perfectly conveyed it here. It felt like opening a romantic heart and watching it keep time to our most secret and sensuous thoughts. I'm quite literally blown away with this. I wept. katy xox.
