Batman's my all time favorite comic-book hero simply because he is the most real--no superpowers, no alien bloodline--just a guy created by a sharp twist of fate, believing the only way to end his inner turmoil is by eradicating its source. This is my homage to him, written a good decade or so ago...

Circle of light

The Shade at his back
Cooler than black

Cold, cold, the wind does blow
intermittent within the city
tagging its tail within stray alley
Quick is his breath while his senses rally
Movement in the streets below
Gold heart beating familiar ditty
Sad to see the youth gone wrong
Fever beat; the sweat’s a song
The punk has twitched, he’s made his move
The bat takes wing, there is a force
Caught by surprise in the nick of time
Stopped by the ultimate foe of a crime
But, in the heart there burns a groove
Green-haired hell runs Devil’s Course
With ruby lips, snow face, head lime
It is his quest to kill the mime
...but that will come when both meet prime
