Humanity is always greater than society

The Sea of Humanity

Whenever I call someone my own, I disown humanity.

If I say, ‘My Department,’ I feel alien outside it.

When I support the Indian team, I bind myself to it alone.

Country, caste, faith, family – all cut me off; linking of self

Is unnatural, unless the pull come from that inner feel

Which pulled Romeo to Juliet, coming from beyond society.

Humanity must be higher than society; I must see all as

One plus one plus one; not as we, but as those He brought forth

Into this sea that stretches East and West, South and North.

Yes, we are one humanity on this planet. Yet we find it difficult to think that way has a long history of required loyalty to one entity or another throughout life. It takes a strong person to break those bonds and embrace humanity in all of its forms with brotherhood. Jesus could do that. Gandhi could do that. Martin Luther King could do that. John Lennon did that with his song, Imagine. Why can't we all do that?
