Grandma's Kitchen

This room should aptly be called "the learning room". I spent most of my time there, and the tradition has been passed down for generations.

Open windows,, calico curtains
blowing from a gentle breeze
seemingly endless activity
"one part cornmeal and two parts flour,
heat the oil in the oven for 6 minutes"

Powder blue apron, a box of matches
always in the bib, towel always
thrown over her sturdy shoulder

"Buttermilk makes the best crust for
cornbread and pies"
Shiney pots and milkglass plates
bigdaddy's coffee cup sits in the middle of the table
"Be patient, child, use self control,
remember, there's alot you need to
learn about life, before you bring
it into the world!"
"Always use cold water when boiling eggs, prevents the shells from
breaking"

"Pick up a book and read, you can experience the world before you go off
into it"
It was always warm and cozy, always filled with succulant aromas
"How will you know he's the one?
when he sees you as the most beautiful
woman in he world, and you're in hair rollers and no make-up!"
This room held the knowledge and wisdom
that has formed me into the woman I am.
Here is where I learned respect is
earned, and how to seperate an egg,

It's where I learned where babies
come from, how a young lady should
always conduct herself around adults,
I learned how to cut up a chichen in ten parts,
what age I should be before I had
my first date.

Grandma's kitchen. It was always
filled with lessons of life, and
so much love!
