My Second Miracle

Having gone through the grief of not experiencing the joy of being a Dad to my firstborn, I was granted a second chance by our Heavenly Father. My wife and I were reconciled and received the loan of another beautiful little girl, Rebecca. I say “loaned” because that is what they are; a temporary gift from God who can call them Home at His will.

Poem Artwork

When you arrived I thought my heart would burst

My second gift that did just like the first

The joy you brought just added to my world

A life before me now would be unfurled

I watched you grow from infant with big eyes

That smiled at me with love to my surprise

While rocking you to sleep these eyes would close

You lay within my arms in sweet repose

With some regret I put you in your bed

As loving thoughts abounded in my head

As years flew by I watched as you unfurled

Into the precious one who filled my world

Then déjà vu returned into my life

I once again, was jilted by my wife

It seems by now I surely would have learned

The ugly, sordid lesson of “twice burned”

So now, I try to make up for the grief

Of time we had together that was brief

Rebecca Lynn I’ll love you all my days

Our hearts are linked together for always

This poem unfolds so beautifully to fill your readers hearts with sighs and oh, yes...tears. A wonderful, revealing look into the heart of a man who has loved much and suffered often. Well done, my friend.

A very touching poem, James. I think you handle such an emotional subject with great skill, keeping your words fairly short, thus enabling the reader to read between the lines and apply their own emotions and experiences. Thank you for sharing.

Jim, As I read your words and your poetry, I relived that time with you. I remembered our shared joy and the agony we all endured when another little girl was torn from our arms and our lives. I'm humbled and thankful that God has blessed us with this time to enjoy your daughters. I'm so proud of the way you are using your God-given talent to honor your family. I'm glad I'm your little sister. I'm also glad that God let me live to enjoy this person that Mother always knew you to be. I wish she were here to share this time in our lives~~somehow, I believe she is! What's next? I wonder. Sis

Little River by Dadfire

Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
