Alone And Scared

These words came from the heart and mind of a very despondent, confused and lonely young man as he struggled to overcome substance abuse. His inert faith surfaced to rescue him from his living hell. This faith sustained him and through long years of abstinence he conquered the devil that plagued him.

Look at the child
lost in the crowd
Alone and scared

Now he’s grown to be a man
Look at the child
lost in the crowd
Alone and scared

Look at the man
on a park bench
with a bottle
in his hand

He’s all alone
He has no friends
As long as he’s lost
he never can

Run, hide
in your shell
Create your own
living hell

Don’t feel, don’t touch
don’t love, don’t hurt
don’t laugh, don’t cry
don’t ask the reason why

Who is that prying at my shell?
Don’t touch!

You touched me, you love me
you care, I care
I feel, I love
I laugh, I cry
I sometimes ask why

Look at the man
in the crowd
He has faith
He’s not alone
         or scared

I was very touched by this poem. Couldn't help but breathe a quiet "Wow" when I came to the end.

A wonderful, insightful poem shared by one of your relatives; I very much enjoyed this offering. Smacks of such truth!

A lot of hard truths in this one Jim. I'm guessing you were pretty close to the fire. Nicely done. Thanks Dick
