When you have to feel the fear and do it anyway

Poem Artwork

Huddled in the pouring rain
Her trunk and suitcase lay in wait
A new beginning's on that train
The time has come to meet her fate

Thoughts that crowd her newfound muse
Whilst puddles seep into her shoes

Stomach tight in trepidation
Fluttering of fear abound
Nerve ends tingle consternation
Wondering if her choice is sound

Pat, pat, pat on canvas shield
The damp of doubt at once revealed

Restless now on platform slick
Her mind engaged in diffidence
She must devise a mental trick
To buoy her sagging confidence

Heartbeat pounding like a drum
Uncertainty to overcome

Rumble on the rail defines
Her nemesis approaching fast
Static arcing from the lines
From action now, her future's cast

Decisively steps from the rain
Into the belly of the train.

The anticipation in this little poem reaches the point of no return. Like the mysterious woman's decision to leave. We do not know where she is going. Perhaps the big city to get lost in it. But we do know that she feels great trepidation in going.

Intriguing and very rewarding to read.

A powerfully effective poetic piece, Ruan.
