A little dark perhaps...

Poem Artwork

Dark places in his heart reside

And serve to feed his twilight dreams

Where future’s plan is grown with love

Then nurtured into stalwart schemes

Thoughts, which won’t be led astray

Grow stronger, each and every day

His mind, so filled with what’s to come

Cares not for that which forms today

There’s nothing left to redirect

No means to make him turn away

His inspiration’s convolute

His focus blindly resolute

When darkness comes, he’s all but gone

His aura lost in blue dispute

He’ll end his pain for once and all

And all that‘s his, he’ll render mute

Draws greedy on last cigarette

As death strikes up its minuet

*

No soul will mourn his quiet demise

Not one will counter with regret

His presence earned in life and time

A paltry glance, then they’d forget

Salvation withheld recompense

And sought to serve cold reticence

His passing wasn’t noteworthy

Of any living consequence

His being here’d affected not

A single soul’s predominance

No tears shall fall in torrid streams

No sadness felt in bleak extremes

Where shadows cast a cruel aside

And men are lost, their strength denied

Dark places in the world reside.

Bravo! To suicide few are strangers and yet we so often allow those ghosts to wander aimlessly after the fact. Any consolation far too late to consider meaningful. Those are the true lost souls. Your last stanza a chiller! M.True

A woman writing about how a man might feel about himself. Very courageous and revealing. Great writing, too.

A rather impactful consideration of how we go. Enjoyable, even as its tone vibrated the darkness in us all.

This is a good one, Ruan. There are many who wear the mantle you have so aptly described. His farewell minuet is bereft of sorrow.

Methinks I know of whom you speak
Hemm'd by clouds so dark and weak..
