When a family is not all it should be.

Poem Artwork

Where once she’d give her heart and soul
Grant every wish to those she loved
Bestow their dreams with every gift
That she could summon from above

Where once she’d trust their every word
Give benefit in dire doubt
Stand side by side, united front
And face the world as team devout

Where once her faith and trust prevailed
Unwaveringly staunch and firm
A lesson learned shook her resolve
All her beliefs had come to term

Those sacred souls were fake, benign
No love from her would change their ways
No caring could connect their hearts
In truth, while cold deceit decays

Her heart worn proudly high on sleeve
Was stabbed and sliced, left indisposed
So unprepared, her brimming eyes
Watched sadly as love decomposed

Withdrawn and wary, wounded grave,
The stricken heart can barely beat
Perhaps, with time, her wounds will heal
But, powerless to ride defeat,

Heart’s sheltered from such coarse attack
And veiled from viper’s poison charm
Held safe within, where steely knives
Won’t reach, protecting it from harm

And thus, new life of solitude
Presents a chance to convalesce
Bestows a gift of peace and calm
‘til newborn strength will acquiesce.

I can feel your words in my soul. I can feel them working their way to my heart. I have also faced a family of lies, where nothing I did was ever good for them. Thank God they weren't my family but a family by marriage. I have slowly erased them from my life. I'm still waiting for time to heal the wounds.

I don't have blood family for the most part anymore, either...my one cousin has stood by me, but the rest have basically given up, just as I have with them...I was a total jerk when I was young and treated all of them quite badly and now its their turn to do so back to me...I am older, just as they are and I want to apologize, but to write them a letter I need a printer and while I have one, I don't have ink and just for black, it is quite expensive...oh well just got to move on & believe that even if I did re-open communication with them, it may not be the best idea...liked ur write here young lady...being alone, without family other than maybe close friends like I DO have, is sometimes the only way to go....sorry for ranting herein...-e-

Oh Ruan, I one hundred percent relate. I haven't spoken to my "family" in years and doubt if I ever will. I know the heartache you are going through. I feel for you, but I already know you are strong. You can deal with it until it is merely a dull ache.

When dust had settled and time moved on
There standing tall for all to see
A woman brave and true and strong
Had conquered self and now was free.
