Good journalism is still alive in mainstream media. One way to tell is to listen to the so-called experts and see if they're pushing an agenda. The purpose of many media sources is to dig into history and try to prove certain mysteries about the past that never were true but are indoctrinated in many people's minds as true, having heard the stories from early in life when the brain is open to almost anything.
