It was a Saturday morning

Bugs Bunny was on Television

I was eating a bowl of Rice  Krispies

I heard screaming in the kitchen

I walked

my sister and brother frozen in place

I looked

saw my Mother being beaten

by my father

Mother bleeding from her nose and mouth

Father standing over her in a

drunken rage

I froze

my older sister cried

he stopped

everything went back to normal

Mother said

" It's ok..."

I walked outside

My innocence died that day

I never cried until the day she died

I was only 8 years old

And I can recall it like it happened

yesterday.......

That was a pretty traumatic experience.

My recollection was a lot of screaming and yelling after my father came home too late. And then, sometimes, he would come into the room, drunk, and apologize. They stayed together 62 years until he died. Mom is still alive and doesn't say she misses him.

Oh my God! My heart breaks for that little boy...it's unfortunate when a woman just can't get out of an abusive relationship...the children suffer so much...
