Never had he drove a chariot Nor entered into armed conflict As a warrior And blocked sharpened steel Swung at him As a weapon of death
But when he was given A horse-drawn Two wheel carriage Quicker than lickety-split He raced to his damsel in distress
And positioned himself around her As if he was a shield Made of fortified love
And with more warring might Than an undefeated army Of chariot riding warriors From the mighty Assyrian empire
He blocked all the sadness Sharpened into swords And swung at her heart As weapons of pain Designed to cause her A lonely death
And with all the inhabitants of earth Looking on, he pulled his damsel In snug against his breastbone And chariot-drove her to paradise Using her heart As his chariot of love
(sigh!) Every young girl dreams of a Knight of Love, to come sweep her off her feet! But, alas, so few have found such a gallant man!
