You see it too. It's a sad state of affairs on many levels. Breaking bread with another is still the best way. But so few do it anymore. Life's become vast and complicated. Don't use an iPhone. Still have a Verizon LG. Because of work I text and email multiple times each day. It's how business runs in my world. Enjoyed this insight, V. Blessings and peace... r

I have my iphone but I seldom use it. The young people ate taking too much time on the phones, not enough time to spend on finding love and romance. The population in this world will become less and less.

Fortunately, I don't have a cell phone and can't text. However, I do spend a lot of time on the computer and need to get off and on the phone with distant friends and family occasionally so that we can "hear" one another. My brother sent me one of those anonymous "forwards" the other day that had about 20 short videos of humans petting animals, animals petting animals, usually with one species trading another species to a massage treat. Aside from conversation, there's nothing like a good scratch or massage to make contact.

I do not have a "smart phone," much to the consternation of my students who simply cannot figure out why I don't have one. How can I live without one. Answer: very well thank you. Of course, I am on the computer, at work, at home, I write on the computer, I am on the AD website, and I do do Facebook where I post poems, usually the same one that I post on AD. Interestingly enough, the comments often are quite different, so it gives me a good mix of feedback. Otherwise, it's all about in person communication.

You nailed it. A great write for our times. AD is the only form of social media I use. People are urging me to get a Facebook page to go along with my book, but I'm reluctant to do even that. My wife on the other hand, can't stay off of her phone. She's constantly on Facebook, and other social media sites. So much so, I sometimes feel like a widower, even though she's right there beside me.
