Two smudges of ash on the forehead to remind us we were dust
and to dust we shall return;
Lenten days of fasting and mindful observances
Uncrate your inner tomb become aware of your inner path
re-align your thoughts to Jesus;
Take yourself deeper into the forty day virtual walk
and do as Christ did before His glorious days;
(acta non verba) deeds without words, walk the walk
with abstinence things that harm the body and soul
detach, in the light of His resurrection;
From dust to dust one day, we shall return to him .
When I left the Catholic faith, one thing I missed was the Ash Wednesday practice. I felt it was valuable, reminding us that we were Adam's kin, made from ashes in the hand of God, a very humbling realization. And of course, our human bodies would eventually return to dust. Thank God there is a heavenly destination for our spirits when we receive Christ as our Savior and Lord.
