A poem about respecting others and understanding where they come from and why they think the way they do
Respect is the essence which never fades
Respect is what one needs during the journey
Be respectful of others,
use your conscience, treat them with dignity.
Not everyone has had it easy in life
and from my experience
those who have suffered the most have the most
amazing beautiful fractal heart;
No everyone has it handed to them on a silver plate
some have had to contend with abuse and hate
be gentle when sharing your views with others
yours might have come easy, but theirs were hard earned
Ply the reed, bend it, but don't break it
rigidity is for mules, not human beings,
Let them feel free to express their believes
without being clubbed over the head !
Its easy to have faith when everything is going well
its easy to give up, when everything is not
Be kind to those who wear scars on their sleeve
be good to all, harm none, and most of all
Respect where they are, when it came to survival, they had the gall.

Such an important message that you convey here. Without respect for other individuals, there is very little we can do to live effectively within a community and society at large.
This is fine advice, Mystic Rose. I believe that compassion (of which respect is a part) is the key to the healing that must come to this planet before it is too late. I try to help everyone in need. As someone who has gone through the trauma of physical impairment so great that it changed everyone's perception of me, except me, I understand what it takes to leave depression behind and go to a better place.
But when I find a writer so stuck in a rut writing the same poem over and over again and seeking pity rather than earning praise, the teacher in me comes down with some hard love advice that often may seem harsh but I find necessary for that individual to grow and change into something better than they are portraying of themselves on the Internet for all to see.
I respect the sentiment you're proffering here Vienna. Respect for ourselves guides our morals, respect for another guides our manners. But not everyone deserves respect. Respect (I believe) is not something that's just given, it's something that's earned. Respect is the deep admiration for someone or something, elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. Respect is also due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others. And more importantly, respecting another (IMO) is the inevitable fruit of trusting another. But trusting takes time. Appreciate your thoughts. Regards. r

Well said but unfortunately too many of our young are being raised not knowing what the meaning of respect is. For those that do know and use it in their day to day living I tip my hat to those who taught it to them. Good Write.
