TURTLE DOVE
The most beautiful morning stretches before my eyes
beneath a parapet of pink gloaming, one promised breath
All Remains of yesterday swallowed by a burst of fresh air
both window and I are privy to a turtle dove cooing on my ledge
"This is not my habitat" she seems to coo sweetly
I answer her in honesty " it isn't mine either" sweet thing
The coffee smells good and my dippy egg is semi-soft
I sense a new beginning and I am not afraid;
Tomorrow's hopes are perched safely on my shoulder
and somehow, I am not afraid of growing older
Heaven is not a pipe dream mirage from where I stand
God is having a giggle, at the turtle dove and I ...

Rose, your poem is so lovely. There is nothing more soothing than the coo of a dove.

Wow, she's beautiful..I had one perch in my barn the other day and she allowed me to gently perch her on my hands, softly talk to her as I held her for a moment before leaving. They have the sweetest most gentle souls and you wrote such a glorious tribute!

I am so fortunate to have mourning doves and white wing doves nesting in my neighborhood and waiting outside my window every day for our meager handout of birdseed. They are such regal creatures, fast flyers, and their call to one another is so peaceful and even mournful if you think about it.

I have looked up the turtle dove and found that it is a European variety with coloring somewhat different than its American counterparts.

Ah, the wonders of the turtle dove, beautifully described. There is something magical about their cooing.

How wonderfully unique this poem is…
I love the subtle amalgamation of all you describe…
and I especially love the aroma you invite
us to share of your coffee…and the very real
sight and sense of your ‘semi soft dippy egg’..
The innocent arrival of the cooingTurtle Dove has
triggered a sense of
new beginnings…The whole effect is to
take us to a place of courage and trust in Tomorrow…

Your last line is perfect!
I so enjoyed this poem Vienna…
Thank you for sharing it…
