Love Is A Action

my sensational gold eye cat why do I love you
is it the way you glide when you stride
could it be the way you arch your back
or how you purr when it's scratched
the sensual way you move in pitch of night
seeing in the dark without natural light
how you express displeasure at my  small
polite treasures of delight I proffer you

do I love you for the gifts of small treats
you bring me, still warm in your mouth
dropping them at my feet as if in homage
or maybe your teaching me to what hunt
the way you reject me with an air disdain
when I refuse to take your offered token
that flick and snap of tail as you walk  away
says more then any vocal words could say

again I say, why do i love you my minx of a cat
maybe for your comfort when I am lonely
or the way you act like you own me
for snuggling close on a cold winters night
sharing your warmth of fur as you nap
or maybe it is as simple as we are friends
depending on each other for what we need
asking nothing in return but some show of love
now I am not saying a cat could love
but I think love is an action more then a word

Lovely poem Cheryl, you have described the cats personality perfectly, and yes they do LOVE, they have feelings and they CARE, for each other (I have watched cats grieve for months over the loss of a sibling or a special friend) and for us, their 'pet people'!! Jackie <> <

Ah Cheryl, you remind me of M Scott Peck's observation: any thought word or deed that has as it's root, the spiritual growth of oneself or another human being is an act of love; The Road Less Travelled ( after Frost of course).

cheryl, you have to be talking about my cat, Solomon! Cats have words, the purrs and mews that humans ears hear... but, yes, love is an action... just like words, if there is no action behind them, there is no meaning.... great write...

Awww, go on, say it, cats can love, they just prefer to hold themselves on a higher plane.
