Darkness pervades
as I ask you to sit with me
under one remaining light.

My internal structure
cries out in pain just from
looking at you, from knowing
you began in my womb
and grew into the man you are.

Your inward and outward beauty
radiate energy that makes me feel
blessed, yet less than good
because of the mistakes I’ve made.

You are forgiving and your love
is too much for inclusion in my heart
at that moment in time.

But I must regard myself in holy light.
