Poem Artwork

Casting its prism bulb out to sea,

Tis’ my favorite light for all to see,

In Cape May Point, NJ is where it does be,

Wish I could live there, Rufuz, Rene & me…

It is like an old familiar place,

Been seeing her since I was quite young,

Climbed in my youth her one hundred ninety nine steps,

On her tower top, the ocean & beach I do embrace…

She is an old friend,

Keeping the seafarer’s warm,

Her light does penetrate the saltiest mist,

With just her sight I could in life subsist…

I miss her when long its been between sightings,

The closest I sometime get to her is in my writings,

She beckons to me with that bright man made lightening,

She does not allow for anyone with her warm light,

Too experience in any way, anything frightening…

ED - SPLENDID IS - AS SPLENDID DOES!

Have admired it myself, several times, when I've taken the Cape May Ferry to my niece's house in Ocean view.

"... the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness grasps it not!"

There are not a lot of these that people understand and appreciate all that they have done for ships long before computers took over most navagation systems. Lady J

Lighthouses are marvelous wonders, Ed. Sadly, I think their luster and beauty seems to be fading, as society seems to move away from the simple treasures we once enjoyed, but I still find myself so inspired by the strong and nurturing nature that a lighthouse still portrays.

This is beautiful, Ed; thank you.

What a wonderful poem...can see why your admiration exists for this old friend. You SHOULD apply for the light-keeper!

Was that a bright light or a devil's eye in the witches hours around there?

They say the old Jersey Devil is often drawn to that Cape May Point light. Quite interesting, Bro!

Awesome! And, here I thought [based on the title] that it would be about your favorite 'bud.' LOL Reading this, gives me a warm, light feeling - I could almost see its beacon.

God bless you. Kathy

Ed, your poem reminds me of my love for Tybee Island, and my wish to live there with my family (which competes with my wish to live in the mountains LOL)Bright man made lightening...good phrase. Well penned.
