Poem Artwork

To expel extraneous matter from the throat,

After eating said matter like an old billy goat,

Matter lodged beyond ones reach,

Making it oh so much easier then to make speech…

Post nasal drip, also a problem that causes cough,

Enough for me to get really ticked off,

Nasal sprays help to a degree,

I find it though a pain in the neck to cough till I have to pee…

Coughing can be quite loud & disrupting,

Even when we don’t want to be to anyone interrupting,

So please to bear with those that are coughing like they are choking,

We don’t do it to be to others provoking.

Many times as a Respiratory Therapist I would be giving a breathing treatment to a little gentile southern lady. As she would be coughing she would fart and become so verklempt. Sometimes I would laugh and say it's ok other times just ignore it....LOL

Like a good fart, it clears the air. Like my nurse/wife says, "It's a normal bodily function" sop let it rip!

Just to keep from croaking?

Delightfully serious in some places and delightfully funny in others. Accidentally breathing any liquid (wine is worst) down the windpipe is guaranteed to cause a coughing fit. But your lungs expel it in this necessary to prevent pneumonia.

My experience is that if I lay on my back to long, reflux will get me coughing. And, when I turn on my side, a good forced cough does wonders in relieving gas pressure. ;-)

I can definitely relate! It's annoying to have to proclaim, "I'm okay," whenever I cough and my better half comes running, thinking I'm croaking. I cough night and day, sinus problems the culprit. Yep! I can relate! But it's nice to know that so many care enough to make sure we aren't choking to death.

I used to be ill quite often with colds and such. For some reason/s, I cannot remember the last time I had a cold. I am humbly grateful. Wishing you good health free of coughing, Ed. Love and peace,

You forgot about good smoke that pulls a good choke, and then you cough your ass off. So cough when you have to, and don't hold back

I think age brings on these embarrassing episodes of heavy choking or coughing. People run to see if you're choking to death. You can't talk but sputter you'll be okay.
