Being normal?

4am and still I am awake...

Poem Artwork

Here it is almost 4:00am in the bloody morning,

And I find myself like usual wide awake,

My schedule is such of late that I only sleep in the day,

Doing all the chores and stuff I do in the wee hours,

Because I find it hard to in the dark in bed lay…

Oh I can change this cycle if I want to,

But it isn’t easy on my body clock,

I have to stay awake for almost 24 hours,

And try not to get a second wind,

Then I can usually sleep like “normal” people,

Almost too, as well, a rest that is mostly peaceful.

Being 'Normal' is highly over-rated.

I am a victim of the scourge that is insomnia. I am not a doctor so I will not give advice. I hope you find some help with yours.

Love ya!

There are myriad reasons why people have sleep disorders. It started when we lighted up the night with electric light bulbs that allowed us to see and work well beyond what campfire light, candlelight and lamplight had provided us for millennia. We were meant to be alert and awake during daylight hours and to hide, semi-alert to danger, while we attempted to sleep during nighttime hours for millions of years before.

Unless, of course you believe in the biblical approach where God created us with the ability to take drugs to keep us awake, and then drugs, to put us asleep, while trying to stay up until the wee hours to chase our fantasies that often did not come true.

Some people are just wired to be a 3rd shifter. And think of all those great infomercials you get to see, that the the rest of us miss out on. Plus, at 4 in the morning, you can get great service at Wal-Mart.

I'm a nap taker also. Not every day, but often enough. It screws up my night sleeping.

I have been sleeping on and off all through the day because of the powerful pill the doctor has prescribed for me to heal my stomach lining. It knocks me out and made me want to go to sleep. Just waking up briefly to get in here now, but have to go back to sleep again soon. My hours are all messed up too because of the new pill.
