Holidays

I am not much, hell, I never liked holidays, must have been since I lived alone all my life and have not dealt with them, so read on...

           “Holidays”

Wish they would pass with rapidity,

For I am not much for holiday idiocies,

I must buy gifts for those close to me,

This I understand, even if I don’t celebrate,

But with regards holidays, I remain ever

            "celibate!"

Some go all out, decorating & getting cheer,

But I guess that Bah-hum "bug" is with me here,

Although I have tried to catch the holiday bug,

To the point of decorating and trying to cheer,

But, then, when I try, troubles from others I get to hear.

Oh I am sure others who read this will try,

To “help” me to stop being so wry,

But I then truly say to you, please allow me

to be me as I allow you to be you!

This short poem on the holidays is just about over,

As nothing more can be said,

I explained my feelings moreover,

And hope that you now understand,

If it were up to me, the holidays would be dead,

         As they are for ED!

I understand Ed. Holidays seem to be too materialistic. Sometimes the best holidays are the quiet ones. It's more fun to put a puzzle together or to curl up with a good book. It certainly isn't fun preparing a large meal that won't be appreciated.

Won't try to change you, dear, but you know you are always welcome! Unfortunately with the rush, rush here and the rush, rush there and the commercialism, it takes away the true reason. b
