On the day of this writing
if things continue the way they have been...
at the end of this month
I will have reached my 86th birthday.
In terms of days...
that would be a total of 31,390 days.
That's a lot of days to have been on the face of the earth.
In retrospect...
it has been a good life... a full one.
Having been brought up by a loving family,
serving in the army, earning a collage degree,
sharing travel and the ups an downs of married life
for over half a century with my good friend and wife
has been a joy.
But I wonder...
how many days do I have left?
As we say in the new America...
Quien sabe?
My guesstimate would be about a thousand.
My mother lived to be 102...
my brother is 93...
one sister was in her early nineties when she passed...
the other was in in her late eighties.
So what will I do with all this spare time?
the options are limitness.
There is no way I can change the world...
it is already in the hands of inept people...
and I have already reached my level of incompetence.
It takes a lot of patience to reach this many days in one life.
So... I rejoice.
This is the first day of the rest of my life.
Hallelujah!
Congratulations! You have reached the age of reason and realize that you cannot change the world anymore but certainly have enlightened us with this evocative of poems. It is obvious that your thoughts are still very strong and you have something wonderful to write to us now that you have the rest of your life to do it.
WoW! Lately I have meandering about life and death, more death than life, me being seventy-six. Now I read this poem written by a man ten years older than I, and I have to sit back and think along the lines of rabid thought-process at getting to the age of ninety . . . At least . . . You've opened my eyes . . .
You are very blessed to have lived to be 86. Happy Birthday,John.
Love and blessings,
Linda
That's so good, yes, rejoice
and shout Hallelujah again, John!
I hope that you will live out
all your days!
Ron
