The diminishing numbers of this little lovely creature which we seem to overlook has made me realise how the sparrow is so much a part of our daily lives and the fact about how it exerts its characteristics in spite of its size especially the look with its small pricking eyes!

Little one,   little  sparrow, your song   sharp and  shrill

Far in the meadows and streets below  echoes

Across pretty palaces you   reach out to  kings and queens

Over mountains and valleys   you chirp and fly so long

Out on the branches,on window sills and skyscrapers you  sing

Through homes and  schools and churches and clock towers you swing

Your  sweet  melodious tweeter to hear all along

Sing fearlessly  loud with a positive  design

Like dainty dancing damsels don anklets on ankles divine

So powerful  you  echo through all  corridors wide

Cham cham cham cham…the rhythmic   beat  is so on

Beautiful the melody,  at times serious in note,

Telling some story spirited, or is it the clarion call ?

You sing and slowly tip toe to nestle in familiar homes

With leaves and twigs in weathers rough and low

So regular your song, it is soul stirring and sublime

Neither odd, not out of line is your tune

Make me  carefree  like you all at once

So I   can fly high   and be on my own

Free  from the  binding  ties on earth for a while

Energetic and eager each new day, you are a hope!

But how have you gone  so silent these days?

Is the changing pattern in Universe hurting your ways?

Why don’t you sing for me  sooner  O! song bird?

So much a part of my life that you be!

I too have a connection with the birds of the sky. Your adornment of this tiny bird is beautiful and your lament for its dwindling numbers is a wake up call to the world! M.True

Besides the fact of the diminishing bird, the universe is much better for these beautiful words. Hope is like a bird, soaring and falling, singing and silent. May the universe not go silent of hope. Sometimes I fear it will. This one revives me. Thank you JK. Bob

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
