Goodbye To Summer

Another gem from so long ago......

Long lost

Long hindered

Long gone.

The minutes turn into hours,

The hours turn into days.

Years pass,

Autumn leaves turn into winter snow.

Holidays and Sabbaths come and go.

No emotion, no feeling,

no sense of being at all.

I look, I search, I lose all hope.

Your destination was uncertain,

you left a trail too slippery for me to follow.

The wind calls out your name;

or was that my subconscious?

The April rain mixes with my tear drops,

creating a blindfold to the world.

You left with the sun, the warmth, the beautiful wild flowers that used to grow.

You left behind a trail of ice and bitter cold.

The seasons pass but I cannot tell them apart.

They are all dark, dismal, and cold.

Whatever happened to May? June? July?

The birds don’t sing and the children don’t swim out in the pond.

It is frosted over,

like my heart.

You left and took summer with you,

leaving me in the heart of winter,

forever.

Goodbye to Summer,

You will never return.

And if you do, my vision of you will be so blurred,

I don’t think I’ll recognize you.
