On a winter morning,
I crouched on the floor,
In too much pain to move,
I heaved and I cried.
I could feel fate trying to rip my baby away,
Trying desperately to steal her from my womb.
Through all the pangs that hit one atop another,
And through the gush of blood,
I continued to cry out to the Lord,
Please, God, Don’t take my baby from me,
I’m not strong enough,
I could not live if she died,
I know her already,
Although she’s not even born,
You gave her to me,
Please don’t take her away.

Doctors could not explain,
How a miscarriage could start and stop so abruptly,
But I know why,
God dried my tears and answered my request.
I thanked God for every day that she grew inside me,
For every kick of her feet,
For every extra pound I gained.
I woke each morning,
And went to bed each night,
Praising His name and asking for just one thing.

Early on a summer morning,
The pain was unbearable,
Not a drop of anesthetic would they give me,
Again I depended on Him to get me through.
I screamed and cried,
Pushing as best I could.
Finally, she emerged into this world,
But she did not cry.
My heart leapt to my throat but then I thought,
God wouldn’t do this to me,
Surely she will cry.
I heard her soft little whimper,
And tears filled my eyes.
Thank you God, I cried.
Thank you for this most precious gift.

I named her Rain,
This beautiful little angel,
That God blessed me with.
My little miracle,
My answered prayer,
Another reason to believe in God.
