Melting like butter

On a hot knife.

I concluded

I can live with some strife.

It may upset me

For an hour or two.

But then it's all over

Who would have knew.

A hard shell

Will repel

What lands on its back.

Words are the same after a spell.

Too sensitive at times

Is not for the sublime.

Or for the haughty

Most of the time.

Words can be like daggers

In skilled hands.

A few loose teeth

Puts you in command.

A right to the jaw

Has stopped a blabbering mouth.

But that's too harsh you say,

But not to an ignorant lout.

I've never hit someone

Just for an off colored word.

But if they get personal

I'll dump them like a turd.
