The Good Old Days

Day was slowly fading,

My chores almost done.

Tired and getting sleepy,

Another day without fun.

Youthful days have passed,

Don't see the gang anymore.

Married and earning a living,

No hanging out at the store.

Now and then we go to dances,

See some of the old gang.

We talked about the good old days,

When we laughed and sang.

George, you have summed up aging very poetically. We are only young once. We can still sing a song and share a laugh or two when we have grown old. May peace and love be always with you my dear friend. Jon Michael

That's how life is, unless one chooses otherwise. Within, you'll still feel like you're 18. I'll send KB back over :) She misses you!

Through FB I'm now in touch with many old school friends. Yikes, and enemies. lol :)

My mother, who had a circle of friends larger than life, now tells us that she is lonely in her apartment with no one coming and going. She still remembers the good old days but can no longer participate very much. Such is the process of aging and you have portrayed it very well in your poem.

“In the end, we all die alone.” –– Somebody's quote, I don't remember who.

I've made this observation also George. It seems as we get older our lives and the circle we move about in gets smaller. I haven't seen anyone I went to school with for years. The majority of them have died or moved away I believe and the ones who might be left have probably gone to ground like me. The wife is the same way partly. Our social world consists of family and that's all. Kind of sad in a way, but that might be how the world is for a lot of us. Used to be everyone pretty well stayed close to the places we were born at, but now we're such a mobile society. I like poems that make me think and this one did. Bob
