although a thousand soldiers slept nearby
Tonight I am alone in unwelcomed darkness
without your arms or body for loving comfort
Five years have passed since losing you
to unknown and unrewarding circumstances
My need is for warmth kindness and love
given and received as nature mandated
I ask again why unnaturalness is my lot '
and what sense of loyalty to you is still valid
Surely there is another alive and vibrant
whose trust I have earned who could love me
I am ready to save her from idealism and fear
and being coldly alone after lights out
