keep those birthdays coming

Many Happies To Be

It happened this way on St. Pattys day , when I met you sweet lady of mine
It was hello, good bye, but I wouldn’t try to get you off of my mind,

Some kind of a thrill, I’d like to fulfill, to find her I just didn’t know,
I reckon you knew, your girlfriend came through, told me where I could go,

I shoulda passed But lucky at last, here I am knocking your door,
You weren’t too tookin. My dog’s better lookin, Cupid’s ol’aim’s pretty poor,

But once I was there , he had arrows to spare and crippled us both I believe,
Two weeks it took, I guess I was shook. Proposal would be my reprieve.

A month of intent, into marriage we went A miracle joining for sure,
True love words I am told, will never grow old as long as the feelings endure

You’re only eighty six, but love turned the trick ,for a girl so young sweet and pure,
Still happy am I ,You took this old guy. Boy, I robbed the cradle for sure

Much love and Happy Birthday , your old man, lefty

And to think I am still flirting with a 36-year-old pharmacist.

I sure enjoy reading what you write, Tom. The cadence is spot-on, musical, clever, fun. I can just imagine the chuckles you have putting these lines together. You have a knack for revealing the story to a compelling and often surprising end. Thank you ~~ djl

No sweeter birthday wish I have read from any source. You are a master poet, Lefty! And your lovin' ain't bad, neither!

Wish I had written that kind of thing to my birthday baby and I might still be married. I remember she enjoyed all those poems I wrote her when we were courting and then stopped when we were married--my big mistake!
