Veteran in a treatment center flashback not of Vietnam but life.

It, an old rainy day, they told me, it would help, if I could remember, they were wrong

Here the horn play taps
a sound that fills teared eyes

They took me from his arms
I cried for a moment in silence
Officer feared for his uncertain life

A gentle hand on my shoulder offered comfort to a crying soul

Coffin taken to the place they lowered
with ropes fresh starched uniforms

Father drunk hit him with every ounce
Two thought they controlled him wrong
Cell encountered screams I was placed back

Take your time son let it come it is ok you can cry

Placed folded flag in mother's hands
as her tears fell at the word said

Mother and brothers stood outside
He would not release me to them
I spent the night protected by love

Flash of light blinds me in horror I swing madly at the pain

Arms wrapped tight around her leg
I was lost and cried hard it hurt so bad

Judge owned by grandfather released us
Dad walked the line of drunk loved friend
Officer drove us to our home ate breakfast

Easy son relax let it out you are safe here no one will hurt you

Never was I the same again, never a child
every bit of me reached for fear and held it

Two years old delivering ice and meat
Old truck older commitment to a life hard
Mom special like the glow of love of him

Ticking of the clock marks a bit of the sanity I took everything they gave me

Fingers wrapped on the empty bottle
mind hard as steel reaction like lightning

Roads in the evening filled fresh memories
from the halls of sing and dancing love of life
spent in the shadows of a long time past

Nurse one more injection slip back to the past dream of seeing the past

Family is a blessing on the road laid the guild
but no one is going to take the trip so young

Dad lived every moment on the edge moved fast
never spent a day with out excitement
Mind sharp body dying pure grain proof

Hurt do you know what it is to hurt rip your insides out and watch die

Example lost to the wind and I crawled to the door
Glass tall only offers excuses good eyes and vision

Seven years in Merdale one with me
Death slow and painful pride killed
Not a breath left blood filled lungs, drown

Merdale Hospital where TB was treated. In this case, vien formed a bubble in one of the holes in a damged lung, burst, drowned in own blood.
