You do have an incredible gift, Jeff and I am thoroughly enjoying Richard's critique and interpretation of this classy and , I suspect, highly personal piece. My take may be a little different however as I see you casting off, removing, erasing that which you camnnot bear. You drink the blood of courage or maybe it is partaking of someone who consoles you and in the process takes you away from that fear...breaths life back into you. Spirit in tatters...salvation necessary...and finding respit in something or someone in whom you find peace and comfort, passion and purity...something or someone truly rare.
Richard is correct...we can all relate. You've just managed to pen it magnificently.
Wonderful work, Jeff.

"from the tattered fabric
that is...
my restless, troubled soul"
This is a statement I believe everyone can relate too. I certainly have gone through several seasons where I felt exactly this way. They are never easy, and if you make it through intact, you are always stronger and wiser.
Although at first I couldn't help but construe your poem as an example of partaking in the holy communion in the Christian Church, I ended up, after the third read, seeing the blood as a metaphor for those seasons we navigate through where our hearts have been broken by the devastation of a relationship gone bad.
This is a powerful but personal poem, I believe, that has deeper levels of consciousness that become clearly obvious the more you meditate on it. You are gifted Jeff. Blessings to you!
What else can i say but that your writing is just fabulous as you spill out what you feel and want to say. It was a pleasure to read fine work as yours and thanks for sharing this with us all here on the den.
