WHERE is THAT you?

by Jeff Mason — Read all 207 poems by Jeff Mason

Monday, October 27, 2003

With a title like this, you wonder WHAT in the world is this about? It isn't even correct English syntax. Well, it's just some heartfelt memories poured out onto the page.

WHERE is THAT you?

Dearest Love,

Why was my heart ripped from my chest by you?
I truly left myself open.
I have no one left to blame but me.

I felt for the longest time that you were
distancing yourself from me;
that, for some reason, I could no longer
completely fulfill all your needs.

Now that fear has come to fruition. Your soul has left me;
I can feel it in every fiber of my being.
THIS type of loneliness is the most unbearable: the type
that lingers and ACHES beyond anything words can express.

My mind can't focus; I cannot think of anything but the
you that I knew; the old you; the you that sat beside me
at that huge oak tree, just outside the gate ... just inside
the deepest recesses of my inner heart; as we kissed and
hoped that your mother and father would not see. The you
that stole every single teardrop and laugh that I could give.
The you that NEVER gave up on me - NO MATTER WHAT!

WHERE is THAT you?

The you that truly saved my life, from the me that was
nothing without you.
The you that that believed in me - NO MATTER WHAT!

WHERE is THAT you?

The you that wrote letters to me. The you that read my
every word. The you that I wrote songs about. The you
that wrote poetry for ME! FOR ME !!

WHERE is THAT you?

The you that KNEW me!
The you that LOVED me!
The you that KISSED me, like no one has ever kissed me since!
The you that I LOVED, like I will NEVER love anyone else again!

Dearest love, you have left me.
You are NOT
the YOU
that [I] knew.

WHERE is THAT you?

Love,

Me

Yes, this one is expressed well, but it's sad. Still, I like it.
