Inspired by news that there are now flowers at the South Pole - the end of the world - I've made it into a song.

 Flowers at the South Pole

There’s flowers at the South Pole
The prettiest flowers you’ve ever seen
There’s flowers at the South Pole
Brilliant colours of red and green

I dreamt I saw a big white bird
A bird with nowhere left to go
It circled once and gave a cry
A sound of pure sorrow

I dreamt I saw a big grey cloud
And felt heat greater than the sun
The sea rose up to touch the sky
And water covered everyone

I dreamt I saw a big white whale
Searching for long lost ones
He surfaced then dived one last time
Choked by debris in his lungs

There’s flowers at the South Pole
The prettiest flowers you’ve ever seen
There’s flowers at the South Pole
Brilliant colours of red and green

Funny how they grow in circles,
Like wreaths.

Hope and anguish all rolled up in one poem about how we must deal with change. Reminds me of my recent poem, Alligators in the Arctic.
