Salary Crime
Every month a terrible crime occurs,
When my salary is steered onto sharpest rocks
Like a great whale being deliberately beached
And stranded on the shore.
First the Eskimos arrive,
And expertly carve out the great underbelly
To haul the blubber away
As payment for their leaky igloo.
Then they toss the rest to the sharks,
Where a terrible feeding frenzy ensues,
Some taking divets, others hefty chunks
As my account balance sinks into a bloody red sea of debt.
And I am left with something
That no longer resembles a whale,
But rather a few scraps of something that smells slightly fishy,
To sustain me for the month.
Oh how I’d like to set this endangered species free,
And follow in its wake on a calm and tranquil sea!
