I have seen birds go after a squirrel, but the one that comes to my yard daily for the bread that my helper puts out for the birds is not bothered but will clog his arteries with all that starch instead of having the essential vitamins, minerals and nourishment that the nuts give him.
I don't know if I told you this story or not. About 30 years ago, a private secretary that I hired fed over 100 squirrels and chipmunks every day at 4 PM. A few years earlier, she started to feed the birds, but found that squirrels kept raiding her bird food. So she gave in and started the squirrels. She is still doing it in her 80s.
