Young Charlie's Birthday Money
Young Charlie had a birthday his head
was full of dreams,
this was a special year cause he finally
turned thirteen.
He wanted lots of things like
a bike and model car,
but Charlie's birthday money
could only go so far.
He made a real long list
of what he wanted most of all,
you'd think he had enough money
to buy the entire mall!
At the top of Charlie's list
he wrote down brand new puppy,
and a few more items down
a fish tank full of guppies.
a go kart, a skateboard and
new pogo stick,
a baseball, a bat and new
catcher's mitt.
By the time his list was finished
he wrote one hundred things,
but he only had ten dollars
and a pocket full of dreams.
His mommy brought him to the stores
with his crisp ten dollar bill,
said "Take a look around and spend it as you will."
Everything he picked cost
more than Charlie had,
going on this shopping trip
made Charlie very sad.
Looking at the prices made
Charlie realize,
he'd have to save more money
or make a compromise.
Then driving in the car
on their way home from town,
He spotted a little building
called the Fairfield
Doggy Pound.
The puppies there were free
all he needed was some food,
young Charlie got his wish
and is in a better mood.
