 a good deal

i found him
cleaning the streets
always mumbling,
talking to himself

how can people
acquire no discipline
i heard him say
already in his irate mood
he continues on
in this state
every afternoon

i always see him
livid in his own madness
gratified in infecting another
insanity, yes it is
not a smile on his face
always in rage
walking like a madman
people would approach him
hey man, you ok

yeah this street is so dirty
people are uneducated
throwing garbage everywhere
it seems they know
how to make my job
more difficult

it occured to me
too many times
i've seen him like that
no change in attitude
i haven't yet
included him
in my nightly revisions
vowing not to
miss him out this time

for i know who he is
even closer
than a friend to me
he is none other than
my anger personified,
externalized
i know, i have to change
how i feel about him
view him in another
perspective
see him happy, laughing,
so in love with life,
and even dancing

and if I'm successful
at altering
my perception of him
Iam also healing
a part of me
but- if he
has not accepted
this simple gift
of my imagining act
and would rather be
more delighted to stay
in an outraged state

then I'd gladly
receive back my gift
looks like
i'll be the one
happily dancing
on the streets
and so in love with life
and he shall
forever remain
in my mind angerless,
loved by all,
and a damn
walking sunshine

seems like
a good deal to me
more than that-
he's a great reminder
to always
take life lightly
choose to be in glee

so cheers to you,
dear brother
i love you,
i'm sorry,
please forgive me
and thank you.

Yes, we should all attempt to understand others and walk in their shoes. I am reminded of a boy in the movie, "The Last Picture Show" who wasn't quite with the program and was and was always sweeping the street. Unfortunately, he was run over by a truck, but that doesn't mean we should give up.

Those have completely missed the point, and I think Sri Aurobindo has said the wisdom in correlation to your poetry here. You have powers that go beyond mediocrity, Gina, powers that soar spatial real estate unencumbered by mind tax. You know your identity well. We should all have such a grasp on who we really are on this plane of life and above as you do. An intellectual poet, an intellectual read. Enjoyed this engaging syntax, the arrangement of your words have great meaning. Bliss of Identity, indeed.

Bliss of Identity by Sri Aurobindo

All Nature is taught in radiant ways to move,
All beings are in myself embraced.
O fiery boundless Heart of joy and love,
How art thou beating in a mortal’s breast !

It is Thy rapture flaming through my nerves
And all my cells and atoms thrill with Thee ;
My body thy vessel is and only serves
As a living wine-cup of Thy ecstasy.

I am a centre of Thy golden light
And I its vast and vague circumference,
Thou art my soul great, luminous and white
And Thine my mind and will and glowing sense.

Thy spirit’s infinite breath I feel in me;
My life is a throb of Thy eternity.

Interesting how you have turned your insights about anger into a narrative such as this. A hopeful, positive, insightful poem, in spite of the anger.

It is interesting how perception is in the mind of the beholder. We do tend to get a bit more grumpy when we get older. Perhaps it is just the frustration of not being that free, unencumbered soul we once were before life came to visit.

I like how you contrasted feeling good with feeling bad.

If only more would address their inner demons of deceit and disguise the way this wordplay does, perhaps we'd have more dancing, rather than traveling at the ethereal, as if answers come from without, ignoring all solutions are, as your poem eloquently proffers, from within. Write on.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
