This poem explores the romance of dreams, and their relationship to writing.
The Dreamer.
There’s a boat,
anchored in a sunlit bay,
I dream of this place
from years away.
And it comes to me,
when I set my soul free,
to drift and drift -
upon the sea.
What wind or current, gale or
storm
could break the bows
and do me harm?
No one knows of this secret
place,
‘twixt dreams of sleep
and wide awake,
when spirit moves to far off shores,
and mind no longer measures hours.
As I awake,
images arise,
of seas and deserts,
tundra, skies-
of people loved,
and people missed,
of friends departed,
lovers, kissed.
Of epic journeys,
memories made,
of stunning vistas-
pictures, that fade.
Yet, sometimes visions
are transposed
from sleep to waking,
beyond repose.
And Art records Imagination
to bring about a transformation,
where the heart feels
what mind doth think,
and the body’s flow
is with the ink.
