Childish?

Based on Edna St Vincent Millay's:
Childhood Is the Kingdom Where Nobody Dies

CHILDISH?

Childhood is a perpetual State
where nobody dies or ages -

Nobody who matters that is:
Friends, siblings, parents -
and especially not
your mischievous Granny!

... Sadly, the guinea pig
will contract arthritis;
the Greengrocer will grow limp
and the Florist fade.
The Aunts you never heard of will just
cease to send Christmas cards...

But Special People don't die, never fear:
Like fragrance they linger;
Like God, they are always here.

* * * *

To grow up is to die.

To read the Obituaries is death -
as is an over-concern
with furniture polish
and with washing the car...

Waxing lyrical about these
will surely advance old-age
quicker than watching paint dry.

Dead people have ears to hear
nothing but
the moth, rust and worm;

So, choose the cradle
and not the grave:

For the cradle rocks!

Ain't it da Truth!!!!

I love the poems that are nostalgic. I've hung on to my younger years when fantasy substituted for television.

I love this poem. It takes me back to my memories.

Yes, special people don't die, memories keep them alive. A delightful outlook on life and death, and what keeps us young at heart.

This is the most stunning and worthwhile read I have heard in a long time and it is so true. I know from just coming out of a funk that when you start feeling old you become old. Thank you for putting in words what is right before are eyes but we are too blind to see.
I want to be a child forever if I act silly who cares it's my youth.lol

Kate,
You've chosen your words wisely and lyrically..when one begins to focus too sharply on old age and death, they tend to die before they actually do. That's the special part of being a child...you have the right to remain innocent until you are otherwise transported into being grown.
I'm just not looking forward to not being a child any longer!
Great write you have here Kate!

Lisa
