Without pain, what would be joy? Those last two lines sum it all, and you allude to forgiveness which is a requirement for any relationship. Very fine, Kate...

Ahhhhhh... it's all about the recurring word, my lovely Kate. We are, if nothing else, students of our own experiences, which change with each recurrence. I thought your metaphors for dark/light were the keys that unlocked the message... for me, anyway. When I nod my head while reading and I hear myself going 'mm-hmm' I know I am absorbing. After a 2nd reading of this quietly expressed truth poem, I'm happily drenched. How my head and heart love wading in your words. You do it very well. (smile) love,katy xox

it is the love that becomes a friendship, that transcends pain for it has already healed and congealed the relationship through respect and the will to give rather than to take ... sometimes this can be possible ...

These lines cut deep into the reality of and the hopes for relationships. They shimmer with a wisdom that reveals what a tragic mistake it is to take the treasure of each other for granted.

This is right on target, Kate. Friendship and day to day collecting of each other's thoughts and experiences is true love. Being vacant "lovers" is something I can't relate to.
