...Still in trouble with me weight-lifters' back (!!) so am a little slowed down, to say the least... However, Anne Sexton and pain have had their effect! K xx
Foaming words in the mouth of my mind
purge my washboard heart like altar steps:
Hear the evening angelus chiming,
calling for compline's confession -
but I'm not complaining!
For now is the white flag of honesty unfurled:
dots and dashes - letters - coded on paper,
secret yet revealed to the all-seeing I.
Like shells on a beach my words are strewn:
Pick one, hold it to your ear - it speaks
a whisper, a mystery
swirling in its curled ellipse.
My lips they utter not a sound - just my thoughts
carve mantras into hallowed bark:
la lune; the loon; the lark!
What madness does this oil-lust bring,
this private slick of precious hours,
but my fuel, my wealth, my happiness.
Drops of liquid light spread on parchment
are marble eyes illuminating reason;
words of wax poured at random firstly scatter, then -
unable to resist cohesion -
turn-tide congealing out-edge in...
Sculpting features of your face,
the invisible made incarnate.
Ouch this is so striking, expressive and expansive it almost screams off the page with the passion of the poetess. Great work and getting better all the time Kate.
I was doing a lazy surf but logged in to comment on this poem, Kate. Superior! As they say in the south in the USA, you put your whole foot in this one. ;-) ~~Nordette
One of these days, I just know it, you'll be plucked from among us Kate and reside among the literary "chosen". This is exemplary! You've made the intangible not only tangible but palpable...
Pain and distraction are often a great sorce of inspiration. Perhaps it is because we enter another level when we have pain, trying to use our mind to overcome it and create a numbness. Perhaps that deep concentration in one area allows other areas to run freely. Whatever your motivation, Kate, this is excellent writing. Strong and concise images take the reader deep within these verses.
Take care,
Sherry
Kate, your images are flawless ... the alliteration and syntax are a poetic treat ... "unable to resist cohesion" seems the theme of this poem ... sometimes pain provides some really remarkable work ;)
Intuitively, I know I've lived many lifetimes, and none more interesting than the one I'm living now. However, being born an old soul somehow did not excuse me from the same job I share with you and that is learning to craft a positive attitude about
